WHAT IS IT? Ipriflovane is a soy derived isoflavone, also called 7-isopropoxyisoflavone. It is found naturally in bee propolis. WHAT DOES IT DO? Ipriflavone is an anabolic isoflavone, i.e. it builds muscle and bone. Unlike other soy isoflavones, it has no estrogenic or other hormonal activity. The anabolic activity of this compound has been compared to such anabolic steroids as oxandrolone, stanazolol, or methenolone, but it is vastly safer and has no side effects. Ipriflavone is a nutrient partitioning agent, which means that it moves nutrients into building muscle and bone and away from being stored as fat. In animal studies (calves, hogs, poultry, rats, dogs, etc.,) Ipriflavone added to their food resulted in a seven to 20 percent increase in weight despite consuming the same amount of food. Upon inspection it turned out that the weight gain was muscle mass and not fat. The amount of fat decreased in all the animals. Tests also showed that nitrogen retention increased as did methionine incorporation into muscles, both of which are indications of anabolic activity. Ipriflavone also increases endurance. In an experiment with rats given 3g per 100g of load to carry and forced to swim in cold water, Ipriflavone increased their swimming time dramatically. The control animals went from 166 to 196 minutes over 45 days but the Ipriflavone fed animals went from 162 to 225 minutes! Ipriflavone has created a lot of excitement as a treatment for osteoporosis. It increases bone density by increasing the uptake of phosphorus and calcium in the bone by stimulating bone building osteoblasts and enhancing calcitonin while inhibiting osteoclasts which break-down bone tissue. In one study, Ipriflavone take 200 mg 3 times daily increased bone density by 2% and 5.8% after 6 and 12 months respectively in 100 women with osteoporosis. Other studies have yielded similar results. The accelerated bone loss of Paget's Disease also yielded similar results with less bone loss and pain after taking 1200 mg per day for a month followed by 600 mg daily in divided doses Finally, Ipriflavone decreases cholesterol and lowers bad LDL cholesterol while increasing good HDL cholesterol. |
